Reconstruction of the North Ninth Street Bridge called for a new roadway and lighting configuration. Design work focuses on the new closed median and central lighting theme. Light poles in criss-cross patterns reflect familiar railroad crossing signs while median pavers create a rhythmic pattern as one passes by. The artist intentionally created a relationship to design influences incorporated in the North Ohio Overpass. Both Salina entryways echo aspects of railroad travel, operation and history.
