As each New Year unfolds, Salinans can look forward to community programs of the Commission that stand the test of time.
- Art a la Carte concerts happen spring and fall, offering performances from, and for, young and old.
- The Spring Poetry series brings nationally and regionally recognized poets to Salina on Tuesday evenings in April. Presented in partnership with the Salina Public Library, this annual reading series also features one “New Voice” each year.
- The Salina Arts and Cultural Calendar is produced three times a year, and carries an array of activities from throughout the area, for your enjoyment. The Calendar is also available online at www.salinaarts.com
- Now in its second season, First Thursday Art Rush provides an opportunity for visual art galleries and presenters to showcase current exhibitions and activities. The event is modeled after hundreds of others that happen across the country. Many local merchants stay open late, galleries and special interest businesses in the area offer opening receptions or have short programs scheduled.
Other services of the Commission include responses to requests for resources, referrals and information; the convening of the Cultural Roundtable*, responding to issues and needs; and working within City government to forward the agenda of the arts in Salina.

The Salina Arts and Humanities Commission is embarking on a process of cultural assessment and strategic planning that will unfold over the next eighteen months. Dynamic activities that will shape the direction and programming of the Commission for years to come will be happening. Please let us know of your interest in participating. Volunteers are always welcome to get involved in any of the program areas illustrated here.
Our office is located on the 2nd floor of the Smoky Hill Museum at 211 West Iron Avenue. Call or email to receive the Calendar. For information contact:
