Art by itself cannot make social change, but it is necessary in the process. It is impossible to separate the arts from life. As our programs show and mission states, the Salina Arts and Community works in Saline County through the power of the arts and humanities to change lives and build community.

Created in 1966, The Salina Arts and Humanities Commission involves twelve citizens serving as the policy-making body of this department of City government. A City Commissioner and a student from a local high school also serve as liaisons to the Commission.

Commissioners are also members of the component Salina Arts and Humanities Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation formed in 1989. In service to the mission, the Foundation increases public/private interaction by enhancing the Commission’s fund raising ability, leveraging public funds in a way not otherwise possible.

Commissioners serving all or part of 2007 were:

    Marilyn Benyshek
    Kati Blue
